TarLoad

Client-side NeoForge mod for 1.21.1. Downloads compressed TAR archives into chosen directories. Everything runs on the client.

Install

NeoForge 1.21.1. Drop the TarLoad JAR into mods/. That's it.

Commands

/tarload <url> <directory> — download and extract a TAR URL into a directory inside the game directory.

Example: /tarload "https://example.com/archive.tar.xz" "tarload"

Config

config/tarload-client.toml controls extracted extensions:

allowedExtensions = [".mp3", ".bmp", ".pmx"]
quiet = false
allowedServerDirectories = ["*"]

Default allowedExtensions = ["*"] extracts every regular file. quiet hides progress messages. Default allowedServerDirectories = ["*"] allows any game-relative directory; use exact directories such as "3d-skin" to restrict server offers. Changes apply on next extraction.

Server config config/tarload-server.toml:

distributionUrl = ""
distributionDirectory = "tarload"
distributionName = "Server Pack"
distributionTag = "a-generated-uuid"
checkForUpdates = true

When URL is set, joining clients check Last-Modified, then see the name and can accept or decline new downloads. Accepted timestamps are stored in config/tarload-downloads.json.

Files and compression

Default allowedExtensions = ["*"] extracts every regular file. Set exact extensions such as [".foo", ".bar"] to filter files.

Supported compression: none, gzip, bzip2, xz, and Unix compress (.Z). Entries escaping the destination are rejected. Limits: 200 MB download and 512 MiB extracted content.

Only http:// and https:// schemes.

Notes

Files preserve archive directory structure below chosen destination.
